On the West side of Barrhaven, you’ll find the Walter Baker Sports Centre, which rivals its larger cousin with a versatile range of amenities. It boasts a full gym, large swimming pool and two ice rinks. Their fitness centre also offers classes catering to people of all ages and skill levels.

In the summer, stay outdoors and use Barrhaven’s extensive cycling, walking paths and series of parks. Barrhaven has a wide selection of long and short trails spanning over several kilometers. The Champan Mills Conservation Area is a one of the most popular natural areas with a beautiful boardwalk through wetlands and forested areas. If you aren't a fan of hiking, Barrhaven has over 30 parks scattered throughout its neighbourhoods, ranging from sports fields to splash pads.

Stonebridge Golf Club offers golf enthusiasts a beautiful place to complete an 18-hole championship course. It’s a great place for both serious golfers and those who enjoy a leisurely round. Grab a bite to eat on the patio afterwards and enjoy the view.

Looking for a fantastic night out? That’s right, after hearing about these delicious options, your friends from other parts of the city will want to come to you. Afterwards, why not go see one of the latest releases at the Cineplex Cinemas.

Dog parents will be delighted with the aptly named Heart’s Desire Forest where your puppy can get some off-leash exercise and you can get some beautiful river views year-round.

During the warmer months, see and be seen at the Barrhaven Farmer’s Market - a popular spot for residents to browse fresh local produce, artisanal goods and enjoy a lively community atmosphere on weekends. Pet-friendly, too!

You know it’s a good area when it has its own RibFest! In the middle of May (usually Victoria Day long weekend), make it a personal goal to sample all the vendors at the Barrhaven Ribfest and Poutine FestivalThis family-friendly festival has a kids' zone for children to enjoy while you take in the live music. Of course, it's not just for families. Enjoy the beer garden and sample local craft beers with your ribs.

Don’t feel like going anywhere far? We get it! There is a big “shop local” culture developing in Barrhaven and residents are proud to support local Barrhaven businesses for all of their needs. The Chapman Mills Marketplace is a great start as it will have all your big brand favourites, but make sure you look around for the small local businesses as well!

When you do need to leave Barrhaven, you’ll find that there are multiple convenient links to Ottawa. The 416 will take you into town, where you’ll have the option to take the 417 West to Kanata or East to downtown. If you’re taking OCTranspo, you’ll find multiple express routes going to Ottawa as well. 

Speaking of connections, why not take a trip the old-fashioned way and make use of the VIA Rail station conveniently located on Fallowfield road? Take a direct train to downtown Montreal or Toronto for an exciting weekend getaway!
