Barrhaven’s branch of the Ottawa legend, Equator Coffee, will get you in the mood with their Fall-themed lattes and a wonderful selection of munchies. Centrally located at Strandherd and Longfields, it’s the perfect starting point for a perfect weekend.
If you’re one of those people who’s anxious to beat the traffic and be on their way, you should know that the Starbucks at 3302 Woodroffe Ave has a drive-thru. And pumpkin spice lattes.
Celebrate the harvest by picking your own! There’s nothing more wholesome on a Fall weekend than a visit to a bustling farm - and there are many to choose from around Barrhaven.
Shouldice Farm at the Richmond Village location is a popular destination for apple pickers, open Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. All you need to do to pick some great apple varieties is show up in comfortable shoes!
Pick your own pumpkin at the Fallowfield Tree Farm and enjoy some other farm activities like wagon and pony rides. Just follow Fallowfield Rd out of Barrhaven towards Stittsville.
If you want to visit a farm, but don’t feel like picking your own, Abby Hills Farm offers the best of both worlds. Select your own from their mountain of pumpkins and pick up some apples and other fall veggies too! Located just South of Manotic at Prince of Wales Dr. and Bankfield Rd.
Little ones will enjoy all the child-friendly antics at the Log Farm, just up Cedarview Rd. Enjoy a corn maze, feed the animals, play in the hay and pick a pumpkin from the patch. If you visit on a Sunday you can also catch the Farmers Market.
At this time, with all the apples and pumpkins you’ve picked, you may be tempted to hurry home and spend the rest of the weekend baking pies. If not, read on!
Breathe in that Fall smell and take in the colours and changing of the seasons in one of Barrhaven’s plentiful natural areas. Bring a picnic to enjoy the year’s last warm rays of sunshine and fresh air with no mosquitoes!
The Chapman Mills Conservation Area located along the Rideau River, between Berrigan Drive and Wessex Road offers a 1.5-kilometer boardwalk through wetlands and forested areas. It provides beautiful views of the Rideau River and is home to a variety of bird species, making it a favourite for nature lovers and bird watchers.
Near the intersection of Strandherd Drive and Tartan Drive, find the Jock River Landing Trail that follows the Jock River and provides a peaceful and serene environment for walking, jogging, or biking.
If you’ve made your way to Manotick, you can round off the day with a hike around Watson’s Mill, with picturesque views along the Rideau River and a touch of local history.
The Barrhaven Farmers Market runs Sundays until October 27th and you’re sure to find lots of goodies there, from farm fresh veggies and fruits to crafts and artisan baked goods and prepared foods! Stock up on all the necessities for your cozy Fall entertaining. Located at the OC Transpo Nepean Woods Park & Ride off Strandherd Dr.
If you’re heading South for the day, stop by the Manotick Farmers Market (The Lot) as well! It also runs on Sundays until Thanksgiving weekend and is certain to impress. You’ll find a diverse lineup of vendors, from microgreens to soap and candles, and you’ll get to enjoy Fall colours in the lovely old-fashioned town of Manotick too! Located at 5546 Manotick Main Street in the lot behind 692 Coffee and Bar (another bonus - grab a local coffee while you browse).
Watson’s Mill also hosts a Farmers Market in Manotick and adds other activities like Milling Demonstrations and a used book store.
When it comes to Halloween, you can find two awesome Haunted House activities within a short drive of Barrhaven!
Saunders Farm is a local legend when it comes to Halloween, so if you can make it there, you should! Visit during the day for family-friendly wagon rides, mazes and pumpkin picking. If you are looking for something spooky, check out FrightFest and be prepared to be scared! For a smaller scale scare, check out the Haunt Nights at Watson’s Mill in Manotick.
